Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about DataBurrow: product, privacy, accessibility, technical details, and pricing.
Product
DataBurrow is a desktop application that helps you understand and manage your file storage. It scans your computer, catalogs every file's name, size, type, and date, and gives you tools to search, filter, and analyze storage patterns so you can quickly spot duplicates and forgotten files.
Anyone struggling with disk space or file clutter: professionals managing large media libraries, privacy-conscious users who want local-first analysis, and power users who prefer keyboard-driven, offline tools.
Built-in file managers show files in a folder hierarchy. DataBurrow adds cross-hierarchy search, hash-based deduplication, statistical insights on what's consuming space, and multi-criteria filtering, all in one place.
Download the installer for your OS, run it, and click Start Scan. A first scan typically finishes in 30-60 seconds for a few hundred thousand files. No configuration needed.
Privacy & Security
No. DataBurrow is local-first by design. All scanning, indexing, and analysis happens on your computer, and your files are never uploaded to external servers.
Nothing leaves your machine, so there's no data in transit to intercept. The local index is unencrypted by default; if you share your computer, we recommend OS-level full-disk encryption.
No. The application itself is telemetry-free. We don't track how you use it, what you search for, or your file contents.
Accessibility
Yes. DataBurrow meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA: full keyboard navigation, screen reader support, verified color contrast, and adjustable font sizes, built in from the design phase.
Yes, it was tested with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS. File lists, search results, and controls all have clear, descriptive labels.
Technical
Windows 10 and later, and macOS 11 and later. Linux support is possible but not yet in the current release.
Indexing handles 10,000+ files in under 30 seconds, and search returns results in under 500ms for typical queries.
DataBurrow computes a SHA-256 hash of every file. Files with identical hashes are true duplicates, byte-for-byte, which is far more reliable than comparing names or sizes.
No. DataBurrow is read-only. It scans, catalogs, and links you to files so you can act on them yourself. It never modifies anything without you.

Short-term: bug fixes, performance work, and export to CSV. Medium-term: cloud-based multi-device scanning and advanced analytics. The architecture is already built to support both without a rewrite.
